The healthcare system in Portugal is currently facing a period of significant pressure, in which healthcare professionals are often unable to respond in a timely manner to the growing needs of the population. In this context, artificial intelligence emerges as a tool with the potential to optimize processes and free up healthcare professionals’ time, allowing them to focus on aspects of care that require presence, relationships, and empathy. However, the integration of these technologies into the healthcare context raises important ethical issues related to autonomy, privacy, professional responsibility, and equity in access to care.
It is precisely these emerging ethical challenges that Hortense Cotrim, faculty member at the Faculty of Health Sciences and Nursing (Lisbon), will address in her contribution to the next session of the Católica Nursing Talks, entitled “Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare: Emerging Ethical Issues.” The session will be moderated by Sofia Nunes, faculty member at the School of Nursing (Porto).
The session is free of charge, but registration is required.
