Católica in Porto Alumni Meeting discussed second careers and new professional challenges

Tuesday, April 1, 2025 - 10:18

"Second Careers: Opportunities and Challenges" was the theme of the Alumni Meeting at Universidade Católica in Porto brought together more than 50 former students from different faculties of UCP-Porto and across various generations.

Vincenzo Bassi, president of the Associations of Catholic Families in Europe, spoke from Rome, bringing the vision of Pope Francis, who has been saying that we are in a change of era in which humanistic culture will have to be the basis of everything (know why), more than technical culture (know how), with a critical spirit that is fundamental to understanding and influencing the future. He stressed that it is essential to bear in mind that a profession/career should not be a life goal, but an instrument for personal fulfillment, so that each person can achieve their human vocation and seek to contribute to the common good.

This was followed by a very interesting Round Table, moderated by Sofia Salgado, Alumna of Católica Porto Business School, with testimonies from Alumni (André Parente, from Católica Porto Business School; Isabel Costa Dias, from the Faculty of Biotechnology; Marta Pimenta, from the Faculty of Law) and also from Mário Fernandes (Experienced Management). Each participant shared their professional journey, the choices made along the way, the motivations that drive them, and the challenges they still aim to embrace.

This Alumni Meeting, which took place on March 29, was organized by the Alumni Office at UCP Porto, along with the Alumni Associations of Biotechnology, Law, and Psychology, as well as other Alumni initiatives. The event was an opportunity for sharing, learning, and inspiration.

The Alumni of Católica in Porto will have the Alumni Fest, scheduled for next July 5th.
