As part of the Creativity and Innovation module, first-year students of the Nursing Degree at the Nursing School (Porto) of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa presented their innovative projects on 5 December. These projects demonstrated the application of creative thinking to challenges within the healthcare sector.
The seminar was notable for awarding prizes to three innovative project proposals:
"ZeroFalls"
Created to prevent falls at home, this project aims to empower older adults through a television programme featuring guided exercises designed to improve strength and stability.
"BrightAging"
Focused on improving the quality of life for older adults, this project introduced integrated strategies combining digital tools with personalised health practices, promoting active and healthy ageing.
"WashFlow"
Highlighting the importance of hand hygiene in preventing the spread of infections, the creators of "WashFlow" proposed a creative strategy involving gaming tools accessible across various settings to improve hand hygiene among the population.
In addition to the project presentations, the seminar included two lectures by international experts, enriching the discussion on entrepreneurship and innovation in nursing.
Professor Marta Pereira from School of Nursing (Ribeirão Preto), University of São Paulo, delivered a talk titled "Entrepreneurship and Innovation in Nursing: Beyond the University", discussing how creativity can transcend the academic setting and lead to transformative solutions in professional practice.
Professor Carla Teixeira, also from the School of Nursing (Ribeirão Preto), addressed the topic "Entrepreneurship and Innovation in Nursing in Practice", focusing on strategies for implementing innovative ideas directly in healthcare settings.
Both presentations emphasised the importance of developing entrepreneurial nurses capable of driving progress in the nursing profession.
The success of this seminar reflects the Nursing School’s mission to foster academic and practical excellence, preparing its students for future challenges in the healthcare field.
