On July 1st, the Católica Nursing Centre at the Universidade Católica Portuguesa School of Nursing delivered two health education sessions for parents of athletes from the Gaia Municipal Football School, as part of its partnership with Talentos de Campeão. Entitled "Sun: Between Benefits and Care", the sessions aimed to strengthen health literacy on sun exposure and raise awareness of the importance of protecting children and young athletes.

The sessions explored both the health benefits of sun exposure and the risks associated with ultraviolet (UV) radiation. Participants were also informed about the main protective measures to adopt, particularly during outdoor sports activities throughout the summer months. The initiative encouraged parents and guardians to adopt preventive behaviours, helping to reduce the risk of sunburn and other harmful effects of excessive sun exposure.

The active participation of parents created an opportunity for discussion and clarification of questions, reinforcing their essential role in promoting the health and well-being of their children.

This initiative reflects the commitment of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa School of Nursing to promoting health literacy and developing community-based health education projects in close collaboration with its institutional partners.
