From 13 to 16 July, the School of Nursing at the Universidade Católica Portuguesa once again welcomed the Nursing Teen Academy, an initiative that offered secondary school students an immersive experience into the world of Nursing.
Over the course of four days, participants had the opportunity to experience the day-to-day life of a nursing student, exploring different areas of the profession through hands-on activities, clinical simulation, and interaction with faculty members, current students, and healthcare professionals.
The programme included sessions on labour and childbirth care, child growth and development, basic and advanced life support, first aid, wound and stoma care, mental health, healthy ageing and functional capacity, and the hospital environment. Learning was supported through a range of innovative teaching methods, including clinical simulation, virtual reality, high-fidelity simulation manikins, and many other hands-on experiences.
Participants also had the opportunity to visit Pedro Hispano Hospital, spend time with students from the Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, and learn more about student life at the Universidade Católica Portuguesa.
On the final day, a closing session was dedicated to presenting the Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, giving participants the opportunity to learn more about the programme and its curriculum. The event concluded with a social gathering, marking the end of the initiative.
More than simply showcasing the School of Nursing's educational offer, the Nursing Teen Academy aims to bring young people closer to the reality of the nursing profession, allowing them to gain first-hand experience, clarify their questions, and confirm their vocation through an engaging and immersive programme.
The initiative further reinforces the School of Nursing's commitment to helping prospective students make informed academic choices while demonstrating, in an inspiring and accessible way, the positive impact that Nursing has on people's lives and on society.
