Católica Nursing Talks 2026 | Critical Patient Care and Emergency Management

Thursday , 21 de May 2026 - 18:00

The provision of care to individuals in critical condition constitutes one of the most complex and demanding domains of nursing practice. Characterised by clinical instability, multifaceted care environments, and the imperative for timely decision-making, this field requires nurses to demonstrate sustained vigilance, anticipatory capacity, and the ability to deliver rapid, safe, and evidence-informed responses.

Within a healthcare landscape increasingly shaped by technological advancement—encompassing sophisticated monitoring systems, clinical information infrastructures, standardised care bundles, and emerging artificial intelligence–driven decision-support tools—nurses’ clinical judgment remains pivotal. It is central to the early recognition of patient deterioration, the prevention of adverse events, and the safeguarding of individuals experiencing critical illness.

Against this backdrop, José Alves, Specialist Nurse in Medical-Surgical Nursing, lecturer and researcher at the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, will lead the forthcoming session of the Católica Nursing Talks, entitled “Critical Patient Care and Emergency Management.”

Grounded in the context of intensive care practice, the session will critically examine the evolution of care for critically ill patients, the role of nursing in clinical surveillance and anticipatory decision-making, and the contemporary challenges associated with delivering care in environments characterised by high levels of clinical, technological, and ethical complexity.

The session will be moderated by Vasco Neves, lecturer at the Universidade Católica Portuguesa.

The session is free of charge, but registration is required.

21/05/2026 | 6:00 pm | Online via Zoom
